  Funny stuff!
Here's a new webcomic that I found. It's a space opera that seems heavily influenced by Douglas Adams and Phil Foglio.

Sorry if this has kind of turned into a link dump. I've been a tad busy and frazzled to write anything terribly original. But Stranded, the occasional devotional, and other brain droppings will recommence soon I hope.

  Job Change...
Changing jobs. Okay I'll be in the same place, doing largely the same thing, for the same pay, but for a different company. This is good news btw. More details to come as they happen.

  Chattanooga Trip...
Well I didn't see the train and thanks to no camera you won't see what I did do, but I can at least share it with you verbally.

Tuesday I arrived after a nice flight and took in a couple of beers and some excellent stuffed mushrooms at the Hair of the Dog Pub. After a walk around on the riverfront, an ice cream cone, and a viewing of Inside Man (good flick) I decided I was hungry again and went to Cheeburger Cheeburger where I had their Pounder and a Mud Pie milkshake. Needless to say that led to another jaunt around the riverfront.

Wednesday found me working (the reason I came down after all) and that went well. I installed two PCs and found the folks in Dalton to be friendly and easy to get along with. A quick lunch at Krystal (what's the diff between them and Whitecastle?) followed by a nap recharged me for another afternoon/evening in downtown Chattanooga. I ate dinner at Rhythm and Brews where the barbecue pizza and the beer were out of sight! No live music while I was there, but that's okay. After that I found a little coffee shop called Greyfriar's and had their Chaipaccino. I had a good conversation with someone there about the Westminster Confession. A visit to Barnes and Nobles later and I called it a night.

My flight home was uneventful and thankfully early.

  American Immigrants...
In this time of upheaval regarding immigration I think I can at least agree with this:

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American ... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag ... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

  Movie Watchin Fool...
Movies I've seen this week:

Brief thoughts on each:
Glory Road - Standard Disney fair. Remember the Titans did a better job of the whole "uniting the racially diverse sports team" shtick, but Glory had some nice moments and I enjoyed it.
Royal Tenebaums - I just couldn't get into this at all. Maybe it was a mood I was in, but I couldn't get into any of the characters and none of it was funny.
Requiem
- Deeply disturbing. I could've done without seeing some of the more graphic scenes, but it did an excellent job of depicting the descent into drug abuse.
Near Dark - The best vampire movie I've seen that doesn't use the V word. I like this movie's take on the genre and loved seeing Lance Henriksen and Bill Paxton chew it up.
Final Destination 3 - More of the same with some interesting quirks of its own.
40 Year Old Virgin - This movie had a lot more heart than I expected. Easily the funniest comedy I've seen since Dodgeball.

  Techie Blog...
Oh and I promised I would tell you about my new group blog. We've "gone live" with it and have a few posts up there.

Here it is.

  Fibs...
No not a lie, but a poem based on the classic Fibonacci sequence. The sequence is a series of numbers where you add two numbers together to get the next (1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21). A fib uses those numbers as syllables per line.

So
This
Then would
Be a fib
Concerning a fib
Sort of circular isn't it?

Now you try.

  Bondage of the Will...
I'm reading "Bondage of the Will" by Martin Luther and man is it heady stuff. Luther is ripping Erasmus a new one. "I hope I shall so push you, (Christ willing) as to make you heartily repent that you ever published your Diatribe." Man!

Yeah I know I should be doing the Ephesians thing and I will, but I need to be able to read it in one sitting, uninterrupted. Those of you with kids may know what a challenge that is. Excuses aside, Leigh and the kids are gone for a week, so I should have that time.

Also I need to write more of my fiction.

Also I've started a new group blog. That shall remain under wraps for now (though it seems more than half my readership is involved).

  Men's Retreat...
Went on a retreat this weekend with a group of men from various churches in the area. We stayed at Camp Hanes and the weather was BEAUTIFUL.

Our speaker was Al Andrews and he talked about our need for community as men. To often we try to live our lives in relative isolation form other men. He talked about the need for encouragement, having an imagination for other men, and speaking truth into each others lives.

The talks were great but the best thing about it was fellowship with guys that I don't often have the time to see and talk to. I also met a guy that I worked at Camp Willow Run with over twelve years ago. His brother (who I'd known for the last four years) brought him to the retreat and we did some catching up.

My challenge now will be to carry the sense of community we fostered into the "real world". Too often these sorts of weekends are mountain top experiences that lose their focus quickly. I don't want that to happen with this one.
