  Super Savior...
I have reviewed this book:

and I have called it good. If you like the Supes and/or the Christ, have at.

Sample chapter here.

Comments:
Gosh, Mark. What insightful thoughts on the gospel according to super man.

Let Christ be Christ. Let Superman be Superman. Yes, there are parallels (born of Jewish parents Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster, for one...original parent names Mary and Joseph, for another), but I like my Supes without overt religious overtones.

This is why Brian Azzarello's run on the title was donkey balls. Well....that, and Jim Lee's no-expression art.

Well I don't think that anyone is trying to make Superman into Christ or vice versa. I think what the author intended was to show as a sort of meta-literary work, the Superman canon has some definite parallels with the life of Christ as shown in the Gospels.

I guess you can just read it as is without understanding the similarities as you could say, Moby Dick, but it's so much richer for it I can't imagine why you'd want to. Of course if someone is beating you over the head with it (as I assume Brian did) that's a different story.

I agree, and I was being more flip than anything else.

I like exploring the deeper levels of meaning in pop culture - I think it reveals a lot about us.

Sounds interesting, to say the least. Maybe I will pick it up. Or, maybe you'd like to loan it to me.

I don't mind loaning you my copy. It's a galley proof, he sent it to me for review purposes. I want to buy a real copy, just to give him the bucks.
